Summary In 1798, Napoleon led a French campaign in Egypt and Syria while he was ostensibly there to protect French shipping interests. Napoleon brought French scientists and artists with him to engage in archeological expeditions and a complete printing press to document his exploits. While the campaign ended in failure, pro-Napoleon propaganda resulted in the coup of 18 Brumaire, which saw Napoleon seize power back in France.
Added Author Colson, Guillaume-François, 1785-1850, artist.
